Elwin Skiles (1933-1935)

Elwin L. Skiles was born near Cisco, Texas, on June 15, 1912.

He was pastor of First Baptist Church, Abilene, from 1953-1966 and President of Hardin-Simmons University from 1966-1977. Now retired, Dr. Skiles resides in Abilene.

Minutes during Dr. Skiles' ministry are somewhat sparse; but in the first quarter of 1935, there were 71 enrolled in Sunday School with an average attendance of 45, 29 enrolled in Baptist Training Union with an average attendance of 21, 12 W.M.U. members and 32 Sunbeams.
