Joseph Martin Dawson (1902)

Joseph Martin Dawson was born June 21, 1879, in Ellis County, Texas. He died July 6, 1973.

Dr. Dawson was Pastor for six months during his undergraduate years at Baylor University. He later served as pastor of several congregations in central Texas, including First Baptist Church, Waco (1915-1946).

Long active in denominational affairs and author of twelve books, Dr. Dawson was noted for his devotion to religious liberty. In 1957, Baylor established the J.M. Dawson Studies in Church and State in his honor.
